Sher Khan Port road in dire need of attention: Kunduzis

Sher Khan Port road in dire need of attention: Kunduzis

Apr 30, 2017 - 17:24

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Provincial council members and residents of northern Kunduz province say heavy transport vehicles have damaged at parts the road to Sher Khan dry port, creating great inconvenience for commuters.

Provincial council member Yusuf Ayubi told Pajhwok Afghan News overweight trucks had caused damage to the 60-kilometer road at several parts while the Public Works Department remained unconcerned.

The public representative said poor quality material had been used in the road’s construction and the road would extinct soon if the Public Works Department did not pay attention.

Rabbani Rabbani, another provincial council member, also expressed concern over the road’s condition and said Public Works officials should be taken to task for neglecting the road.

Some residents of Kunduz also accused the Public Works Department of negligence in protection of the road.

Haji Mnasoor, a resident of Kunduz city, and a driver, said, “Sher Khan Bandar-Kunduz road has damaged at many parts but the Public Works Department is paying no attention.”

He said there was no truck scale installed to prevent overloading and further worsening of the road’s condition.

However, Eng. Burhanuddin Shinwari, Kunduz public works director, said the road was constructed 15 years ago and they had planned to repair it.
