MPs ratify Indo-Afghan criminals' Extradition Treaty

Apr 15, 2017 - 19:03

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Extradition Treaty between Afghanistan and India to facilitate exchange of wanted criminals has been approved by the Wolesi Jirga or lower house of the parliament, an official said on Saturday.

India and Afghanistan'a foreign ministers inked an Extradition Treaty to facilitate exchange of wanted terrorists and criminals on September 14, 2016 in Delhi. The pact was shared with the lower house for voting today.

Abdul Qayoum Sajad, a member of the house’s international relations commission, said the pact was written in 22 articles and aimed at putting an end to all sponsorship and support to terrorists including those who target Afghanistan and India.

He said the document was earlier submitted to various commissions of the lower house for review, but central auditing and public accounts commission  had rejected the treaty.

Finally, the agreement was approved by lawmakers today while securing 138 votes.
