Deal enforced, Hekmatyar to appear in Kabul soon

Deal enforced, Hekmatyar to appear in Kabul soon

Apr 07, 2017 - 14:06

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) on Friday said its leader Gulbadin Hekmatyar would appear soon in Kabul, denying differences with the unity government over implementation of the peace agreement.

A spokesman for the party, Naqibullah Hashmi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the HIA and the government on their part had implemented the peace accord and had fulfilled their respective responsibilities.

Hashmi said a number of HIA prisoners would be released in near future and the government was ready to provide land plots to their refugee families.

He also said HIA leader Hekmatyar would appear in Kabul within a few weeks. He said there was no problem in implementation of the peace agreement with the government as both the sides had been honest in steps.

Four days ago, the Presidential Palace said a number of HIA prisoners would be released shortly and that the government had discharged its responsibility towards the peace agreement and now it awaited the announcement of a date from the HIA for the return of Hekmatyar to Kabul.

The peace deal struck between the government and the HIA six months ago was touted as a breakthrough that could induce Taliban insurgents to follow suit.
