KABUL (Pajhwok): A married woman has been stoned to death on adultery charges after being convicted by a Taliban court in Warduj district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Wednesday.

The incident on the eve of the International Women’s Day took place on Tuesday’s afternoon, said acting provincial police chief Col. Mohammad Nabi Bayan.

“Yesterday a married woman named Nasera and a young boy named Waisullah were captured by the Taliban on the accusation of adultery in Warduj district.”

“The Taliban court ordered the woman to be stoned to death and the boy was given 100 lashes.” Bayan said the woman had been killed and the boy was alive.

Arifa Navid, the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) provincial chief, said; “We condemn the extrajudicial execution ordered by the Taliban court and want the government to conduct a large-scale mopping-up operation against insurgents in the area.”

Dawlat Mohammad Khawar, the Warduj district chief, said Nasir was the seventh woman to be punished by Taliban courts in the district.
