Pakistan deports 262 more Afghan citizens via Torkham

Pakistan deports 262 more Afghan citizens via Torkham

Mar 06, 2017 - 10:09

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Pakistani forces have handed over 262 more Afghan nationals, including patients, to authorities at the Torkham border crossing, an official said on Monday.

Ghulam Haidar Faqirzai, head of the provincial repatriation and refugees department, confirmed to Pajhwok Afghan News over 250 Afghans had been deported by Pakistan.

Women, children and 90 detainees were among the deportees, an action that comes as the Afghanistan-Pakistan border remained shut for the 17th day.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, confirmed the deportation via Torkham.  He said the deportees had no documents of travel and residency in Pakistan.

Relations between the neighbours hit a new low after a series of bombings in the neighbouring country. Islamabad closed all crossing points on the Durand Line subsequently.
