37 Daesh fighters killed in Nangarhar clashes

Mar 06, 2017 - 12:22

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 37 Daesh fighters including three suicide bombers were killed on Monday during security forces’ operations in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said.

The Nangarhar governor’s spokesperson, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News the operations were carried out by joint forces in Pandula, Abdulkhil, Gardi and Ghushtal localities of Achin district in the morning.

Three suicide bombers were among at least 37 Daesh insurgents killed and five other were wounded during the clashes. He said the dead fighters included many foreigners.

Khogyani said the suicide bombers and other Daesh militants wanted to attack security posts and group suicide attacks but they faced resistance from security forces.

The resistance lasted two hours, leaving four Afghan Local Police (ALP) personnel dead and five wounded.

ALP post commander, Khair Mohammad, said many Daesh fighters were killed in the clash. He complained his colleagues suffered the casualties as security forces failed to come to their rescue.
