149 Taliban killed, 73 wounded in past 24 hours

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Defence (MoD) on Friday said 149 Taliban militants were killed and 73 others wounded in operations in various parts of the country over the past 24 hours.

A MoD statement to Pajhwok Afghan News said the operations were carried out in Laghman, Nangarhar, Kapisa, Logar, Farah, Takhar, Baghan and Helmand provinces.

The statement said a commander named Khalid was among 47 militants killed and 27 others wounded in the operation in eastern Laghman province.

In southern Helmand province, the statement, said 47 rebels were killed and 22 others wounded and their four vehicles, 13 motorcycles, arms and 20 mines were confiscated.

Two commanders were among 34 Taliban militants killed and another nearly a dozen wounded in central Logar province, the statement said, adding eight militants were killed in Nangarhar, seven in Farah and four in Takhar provinces.

The MoD statement had no mention of casualties among the security forces. The Taliban have so far not commented about the MoD claims.
