KABUL (Pajhwok):  The Afghan ambassador to India has welcomed US President Donald Trump's commitment to fighting radicalism and terrorism.

"The greatest challenge for the region and the world is terrorism and radicalism, And he has said that it has to be eradicated," Shaida Mohammad Abdali said.

Addressing at a seminar in New Delhi on Monday, the envoy said: "We hope the policy of the new US administration will be such that engages countries in the region around Afghanistan…”

Indian media quoted Abdali as commending New Delhi’s role in the fight against terrorism. He called Afghanistan crucial to regional stability due to its location.

Abdali suggested Afghanistan’s integration into regional economic cooperation for the sake of bringing peace and security to the conflict-devastated country.

On China’s the role in stabilising Afghanistan, he said: "We would like to utilise their resources. When it comes to their relationship with Pakistan, we hope they will be able to influence its productive engagement for peace."

About the peace deal with Hezb-i-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hikmatyar, Abdali said: "It's a good beginning. We hope this will be used as a positive step towards engaging the Taliban and our neighbour Pakistan in a successful peace process."
