Wounded bride: All my dreams shattered

Wounded bride: All my dreams shattered

Dec 31, 2016 - 18:07

KABUL (Pajhwok): Two persons were killed and four others, including a newly-wed couple, wounded on Saturday when a magnetic bomb attached to the bride’s car went off in Kabul, police said.

The wounded bride said her life’s best moments were ruined by the blast that occurred on Friday midnight at Qambar Square.

The blast in the limits of 5th municipal district of Kabul city destroyed the car carrying the bride and groom. The car caught fire soon after the blast.

The bride, 21, named Nazia, claimed the explosion was caused by a magnetic bomb attached to their car.

Nazia, who sustained injuries to her face and legs, told Pajhwok Afghan News all her dreams were shattered and turned into sorrow and grief.

Zarghona, a sister of the bride, who was accompanying Nazia at hospital, said: “As the wedding ceremony finished, we set out for home from the hotel. On the way after 20 minutes, suddenly a blast ripped through the bride and groom’s car.”

Zarghona said two persons, including the driver, were killed and the groom’s grandmother, mother, sister and a nephew as well as the bride were wounded. The blast was probably caused by a magnetic bomb, she said, denying enmity with someone.

Dr. Mohammad Fazal, burn ward in-charge at Estiqlal hospital, confirmed receiving four wounded persons. He said condition of the newly-wed couple was stable, however, two other severely injured persons were in critical condition.

However, 119 police chief Brig. Gen. Mohammad Humayun Aini had earlier said the incident happened on Friday night when the car’s gas cylinder exploded.

He cited poor quality of the gas system in the vehicle resulting in the blast. He said police had launched investigation into the incident.
