District chief wounded, driver killed in Laghman blast

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Batikot district chief was wounded and his driver killed in a roadside bombing in eastern Laghman province on Saturday morning, an official said.

Haji Ghalib, the district’s administrative head, came under attack on the Kabul-Jalalabad road in Surkhakan district at 7am, a spokesman for the Nangarhar governor said.

Attaullah Khogyani told Pajhwok Afghan News the magnetic bomb had been attacked to car of Ghalib, who was on his way from Kabul to Jalalabad.

Ghalib and his gunman were wounded in the explosion, which killed the car driver, Khogyani said. The district chief and his guard were evacuated to hospital.

Meanwhile, Governor Gulab Mangal directed public health officials to ensure the best possible medical treatment of Ghalib and his security guard.

Ghalib, who has also served as Achin district chief, has clashed with the Taliban several times. He has lost 20 relatives in fighting against the militants.
