19 civilians freed from Daesh captivity, 11 insurgents killed

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Nineteen civilians have been freed from Islamic State (Daesh) captivity and 11 hardcore militants killed in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Monday.

Police spokesman Hazrat Hussain Mashriqiwal told Pajhwok Afghan News 19 civilians were released and some areas cleared of Daesh rebels in Pachiragam district in a clearing operation.

Some children were among those freed as a result of Sunday’s operation. The children had been reunited with their families, the police official said.

At least 11 Daesh militants had been killed during an offensive in Achin district, said Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman.

Supported by NATO helicopters, the offensive was conducted in Janjal Shagi and Shaista Gar localities, he added.

An anti-aircraft gun of the insurgents was destroyed, civilians and security forces suffered no causalities, the spokesman said.
