Militants can’t achieve their goals by killing people: HPC

Militants can’t achieve their goals by killing people: HPC

Apr 20, 2016 - 13:54

KABUL (Pajhwok): A day after a devastating attack in Kabul, the High Peace Council (HPC) on Wednesday said the enemies of the country would not be able to achieve their goals by killing innocent Afghans.

At least 30 people were killed and more than 350 others wounded in car suicide attack on VIP protection unit in the Pul-i-Mahmood Khan area in the 16th police district of the capital.

In a statement, the peace body condemned the attack and said Afghanistan’s enemies should understand they could never achieve their nefarious designs by killing innocent people.

The HPC believed war and violence cause only death and destruction, nothing else, urging the rebels not to shed the blood of Afghans, come to the negotiating table and put an end to the ongoing conflict in the country.

The council asked the militants to shun the insurgency and join the peace process as soon as possible. The Afghan government had repeatedly asked the Taliban to join the reconciliation drive, but they usually responded with deadly attacks, the statement continued.

Following the deadly assault, the Afghan government boycotted future meetings of the Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) and said it was exploring new ways of reaching out to the insurgents.
