Feb 23, 2016 - 10:50

KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul is all set hosts the fourth quadrilateral meeting aimed at paving the ground for direct talks with the Taliban and Hezb-i-Islami Afghanistan (HIA) today (Tuesday).

Three of the four-nation meetings, involving representatives from Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States, have already taken place in Kabul and Islamabad.

At the third meeting on February 6, the participants had agreed on a roadmap for the resumptionof peace talks that were suspended after the announcement of Mullah Omar’s death.

Ahead of the important session, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said the diplomats would enter into discussion after opening remarks from Foreign MinisterSalahuddin Rabbani.

Javed Faisal, deputy spokesman for Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Abdullah, said the government hoped the meeting would yield a positive result and a clear mechanism for peace negotiations.

He said the date and venue for direct talks with the militants would also be decided in the meeting. The government remained serious about talks with all rebel groups, including Taliban, HIA and the Haqqani Network, Faisal concluded.
