KABUL (Pajhwok): A strategy for peace talks with Taliban may be finalised at third quadrilateral meeting in Islamabad today (Saturday), an official said.

The Afghan delegation is led by Hikmat Khalil Karzai, the deputy foreign minister. A joint declaration would also be issued at the end of the meeting, an official said.

On the sidelines of the Heart of Asia conference last year, Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the US agreed to startconsultations on peace and stability in Afghanistan.

Deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign AffairsKhairullah Azad told Pajhwok Afghan News the four nations would finalise the roadmap to the peace talks at the third meeting.

“We hope participantsof this meeting will finalisenext steps for direct dialogue with the armed oppositions,” he said, adding responsibilities of the member countries would be specified.

“We started the four-way process to evolve a clear programme before peace talks begin. This session should not be like the previous ones; we want to negotiate on the basis of a well-defined programme,” he concluded.
