Afghan won’t forget Indian assistance, says Ibrahimi

Afghan won’t forget Indian assistance, says Ibrahimi

Dec 25, 2015 - 16:02

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga speaker on Friday hailed the newly-inaugurated parliament in Kabul as a precious gift from Indian government and people to Afghanistan.

Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi said the gift was reflective of the honest friendship between the two counties. He hoped India would continue to stand out for its generous assistances to the Afghans.

“Our nation is witness to the fact that India has always been in favour of friendship and cooperation with Afghanistan,” the speaker said after the inauguration of the new parliament building.

While pursuing intelligent diplomacy, Ibrahimi said, India had been following an honest policy and recognised the due rights of the Afghan people. Its selfless would not be forgotten by the Afghans, he concluded.

Earlier in the day, President Ashraf Ghani and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the newly-constructed building for the parliament -- a democratic gift from New Delhi to Kabul.

Modi voiced his happiness over the name of the building -- Atal Block. “We could not have chosen a more special day than the birthday of one of the tallest leaders -- former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.”
