Abdullah to back Kunduz probe team’s findings

Abdullah to back Kunduz probe team’s findings

Oct 15, 2015 - 23:04

KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer Dr. Abdullah Abdullah on Thursday said he would strongly support the findings of the government-appointed fact finding commission tasked with investigating the fall of Kunduz city.

Abdullah, who met members of the commission, asked the panel to thoroughly and carefully investigate all aspects of the shocking incident.

Taliban militants captured Kunduz City, the capital of northern Kunduz province, earlier this month and ruled it for three days.

“The aim of sending the fact finding team to Kunduz is to present a perfect and multifaceted picture of the situation and work for socio-political stability of the country,” he said.

The commission head, Amrullah Saleh, assured the people and the government that they would responsibly and strictly continue their activities.

“We have the authority to access all secret and ordinary documents related to the issue and we will listen to the views of people, civil society, security departments and both leaders of the unity government,” he said.

He said their other objectives would be to find and evaluate facts before submitting them to the government, asking the government to punish those found guilty of negligence.

“We are optimistic about the method of investigation through which we can restore the trust of people and government support for political stability,” he said.

Abdullah said during his recent visit to Kudnuz, people complained about the negligence of the provincial leadership.

The findings and report of the commission would be strongly supported and those responsible would be punished, he asserted.
