KABUL (Pajhwok): A senior Pakistan Army commander is scheduled to visit Afghanistan tomorrow (Wednesday) for talks with his Afghan counterpart in southern Kandahar province.

In a move toward greater cooperation between the neighbours, the Pakistan Army said the trip was aimed to enhance military to the military relationship.

Lt. Gen. Nasir Khan Janjua, the Southern command chief, would meet the commander of southwestern Kandahar province, the Inter-Services Public Relations said.

Over the weekend, Pakistan and Afghanistan opened a series of meetings to improve border coordination and deepening military-to-military ties,

Peshawar Corps Commander Lt Gen Hidayatur Rehman travelled visited eastern Nangarhar province on Sunday. “Matters related to border security came under discussion. Ways and means were also discussed to further enhance the existing border coordination mechanism.”

Gen Rehman, his Nangarhar counterpart and representatives of Afghan Border Police and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) conferred on border security.

A decision on discussions between commanders was taken during the last trilateral meeting on Dec 23 in Islamabad between Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif, ANA chief Gen. Sher Muhammad Karimi and ISAF Commander General John Campbell.
