FAIZABAD/MAIMANA (Pajhwok): The reconstruction of a canal and asphalting of a road in the northern part of the country would benefit the people in agriculture and transportation sectors, officials said on Thursday.

A 50 years old canal in Faizabad, the provincial capital, was being rebuilt, a project that would help in irrigating 850 hectares of land, the irrigation director, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the three kilometres long canal will be reconstructed at a cost of $5.5 million provided by the World Bank (WB), Eng. Mohammad Rafi Bahman said.

Also on Thursday, asphalting of a three kilometres road in the Andkhoi district of northwestern Faryab province kicked off. District chief Sultan Sanjar said the road would be completed at a cost of 75 million afghanis, provided by the Ministry of Public Work.

Hamidullah, a resident of the locality, said currently the road was in depilated condition. After the road was asphalted, the distance would reduce to 10 minutes, he explained.
