KUNDUZ CITY/ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A three-day operation against militants ended with the clearance of 10 villages in northern Kunduz province, but residents claimed Afghan Local Police (ALP) had looted their houses.

Syed Sarwar Hussaini, the provincial police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News militants had left the area without putting up any resistance. Police seized an arms cache in the area.

But residents accused the ALP personnel of robbing a number of houses during the clearing operation. When 300 displaced families returned to their villages from Kunduz City, the ALP had looted many houses, said Ziaul Haq, a local resident.

The displaced people had suffered a lot living in rented houses and tents in deserts, Haq complained, asked the government to maintain foolproof security in the locality.

Mansoor, another resident, said: “It’s the harvest time here, but the Taliban and ALP men are forcibly collecting Ushr (Islamic tax on agriculture produce --- 1-10th of the crop.”

During the offensive, there was no fighting, he said, asking the authorities to establish security posts to prevent militants from returning, he added.

The police spokesman asked residents to inform the authorities if anyone asked them for Ushr.

Elsewhere, a vehicle full of explosives was seized in Nimroz province. Ahmad Arab, the governor’s spokesperson said, the vehicle found in Del Aram district was defused.
