8 insurgents killed in Badakhshan offensive

8 insurgents killed in Badakhshan offensive

Sep 16, 2014 - 15:59

FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Eight rebels have been killed and 17 others wounded in northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said Tuesday.

Provincial police chief, Lal Mohammad Ahmadzai today told a news conference eight militants were killed, 17 wounded and nine others arrested in operations in Argo, Juram, Khash and Draim districts.

He said that 36 villages were cleared of militants during the operations. Civilians and security forces suffered no casualties.

However, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid denied the rebel casualties and claimed several Afghan soldiers were killed in the Argo clash.

A resident of the Shtak village of Argo district, Rahmatullah said: “Taliban have been active in our area for the past three months; they force us to provide them food…”

He alleged that Taliban also tortured people on pretext of working for the government. Residents were unable to harvest their crops due to recent violence, the man concluded.
