Helmand unrest claims 11 lives

LASHKARGAH (PAN): Eleven people, including five civilians and a policeman have been killed and eight others injured in separate violence related incidents in southern Helmand province, officials said on Sunday.

Five civilians, including a child have been killed when a tractor they were riding struck a roadside bomb in the Musa Qala district on Saturday afternoon, Omar Zwak, governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the incident took place in Kando area, eight kilometres from the district headquarters, where Taliban planted mines along all the routes.

Elsewhere, five rebels were killed and eight others injured during a clash with police in the Nahr-i-Saraj area of Greshk district, a local police official, Col. Abdul Satar Noorzai said.

The gun battle erupted on Saturday and lasted until 11:00pm, leaving a policeman dead and two others injured, he added.
