KABUL (PAN): With remarkable calligraphy and decoration, a Holy Quran Exhibition was launched at the Eidgah Mosque in the central capital Kabul on Saturday.

A joint venture of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Iranian embassy, the event showcases thousands of rare copies of the Quran and other Shariah books.

Hajj Minister Mohammad Yusuf Niazi and Iranian Ambassador Abu Fazl Zurhrawad, who inaugurated the show, said such exhibitions were beneficial in promoting Islamic education and art.

The exhibition has two sections, where 15 stalls have been specified for Afghan book sellers and publishers. Thousands of Islamic books, Tafaseer and other books are on display.

The second portion for Iranian book sellers and publishers showcases Islamic artworks, singular copies of the Quran and paintings inscribed with Quranic verses.

Ministry of Hajj spokesman Habibul Rahman Salehi told Pajhwok Afghan News the event attracted lovers of Islamic artworks and knowledge for five days.

The Iranian envoy told reporters that artists of the two countries could spread Quranic teachings through such exhibitions, which had been useful in promotion of culture.
