Nangarhar dispute claims 4 lives

Nangarhar dispute claims 4 lives

Jun 13, 2012 - 17:37

KABUL (PAN): Four people, including a woman, were shot dead in an apparent family dispute in the Sherzad district of eastern Nangahar province on Wednesday, an official said.

The incident occurred before noon in the Tangi area, said the district chief Haji Syed Rahman.

Ghulam Mohammad was on his way to the district centre, along with his family, when his armed nephews opened fire at them, the official said.

Mohammad, his wife and a young son were killed in the attack and one of the attackers was also killed when Mohammad returned fire, Rahman said.

The victim’s two daughters, injured in the gun attack, were taken to the Jalalabad civil hospital.

The governor’s spokesman Ahmad Zia Abdulzai confirmed the incident, saying it was a result of a family dispute.

Elsewhere, police clashed with armed insurgents in the Siahgard district of central Parwan province, with both sides suffering casualties, officials said on Wednesday.

The district chief said eight rebels were killed and a policeman and scores of armed militants were wounded in the clash in the Abkan and Chahardeh areas.

A group commander of local police in the area said a national police vehicle was blown up near the district centre -- killing two policemen and injuring three others.

A Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said only three of their fighters were killed and five injured in clashes with the police in the district.

He claimed at least 20 security men were killed or wounded, and two police vehicles and three tanks were also destroyed.

A day earlier, officials said two children were killed and five others from the same family injured when a rocket hit their house in the district.
