Afghan soldier, 2 rebels killed in Kunar clash

ASADABAD (PAN): Two Taliban militants and an Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier were killed in the Watapur district of eastern Kunar province on Thursday, an official said.

One soldier was killed and two others injured during a Taliban ambush in the district, ANA commander in Pech Dara area, Lt. Col. Turab, told Pajhwok Afghan News.  

He added two Taliban militants were also killed and another injured during the ensuing clash with the soldiers.

At least one civilian was injured during the ambush, said resident Janat Gul.  But Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed six Afghan and three foreign troops were killed in the attack.

Whiling denying casualties among the fighters, he said the ambush marked the beginning of their "Al Farouq" spring offensive in the province.
