MAIDAN SHAHR (PAN): A policeman shot dead three of his colleagues in central Maidan Wardak province, where two Taliban commanders were detained by a joint security force, officials said on Sunday.

The three policemen were killed on Saturday night at a checkpoint in the Karimdad area of Nirkh district, the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Hanif Hanifi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the attacker managed to flee the checkpoint manned by the four policemen. An investigation had been launched into the incident, the district chief added.

Separately, two local Taliban commanders and four others fighters were detained during joint operations by Afghan and International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops in Syedabad and Nirkh districts.

The detainees included a rebel leader, Din Mohammad, who was arrested in the Tangi area of Syedabad, said the governor’s spokesman, Shahidullah Shahid.

Another Taliban commander, Mullah Ibrahim, was apprehended during in the Tukark area of Nirkh, he said. Four additional suspects were also detained.

He accused both commanders of armed attacks on Afghan and foreign troops and planting roadside bombs. Some weapons and ammunitions were also recovered from the insurgents, he concluded.
