Bodies of German hikers delivered to ISAF forces

Bodies of German hikers delivered to ISAF forces

Sep 06, 2011 - 21:05

CHARIKAR (PAN): The dead bodies of a pair of German hikers, who went missing two weeks ago in central Parwan province, have been recovered and handed over to foreign forces, officials said Tuesday.

The pair went missing after they went on a hiking trip in the Salang Mountains, north of Kabul. Their dead bodies were found on Monday in Dasht-i-Khoni area of Salang district, said Brig. Gen. Shir Ahmad Maldani, the provincial police chief.

He said a police party on Monday climbed the Salang mountain to bring down the dead. The bodies were handed over to ISAF forces, he said.

Roshna Khalid, the governor's spokesman said, the preliminary investigation showed the hikers had been shot dead.

Security officials said the duo had come to the area for hiking purposes without informing the security forces.

They said the two were first shot dead elsewhere and then their bodies brought to the area.

The cause of death was still undetermined but Khalid said they appeared to have been shot for their money and equipment.
