SAR-I-PUL (PAN): Eleven people, including eight Taliban fighters, were killed and five civilians wounded during a joint operation by Afghan and foreign soldiers in the northern province of Sar-i-Pul, an official said Saturday.

The insurgents and civilians, including a woman, were killed when the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) bombed a rebel hideout in the Shah Toot area of Sayad district late on Friday night, the police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Five civilians, including a woman, were wounded in the bombardment, Brig. Gen. Asadullah Sherzad said. Two Taliban commanders, Mullah Hashim and Mullah Abdullah, were among the dead.

The ISAF media office said it had not yet received any report about the incident. The Taliban have not commented either on the airstrike.

Separately, the Taliban attacked Siah Gird district of central Parwan provincial. Three of the attackers were wounded, said the police chief, Brig. Gen. Sher Ahmad Maldani.

A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid, said three policemen were wounded a fourth taken hostage. He denied the guerrillas had suffered any fatalities.
