Government official killed in Kunar bombing

Jun 06, 2011 - 12:07

ASADABAD (PAN): An officer of the tribal affairs department and former jihadi commander died in a roadside bombing in the eastern province of Kunar on Monday, officials said.

The incident took place at 8 am when the officer, Mir Zaman, was walking along the road in the Mashugal area of Watapur district, Counter Terrorism Department Head Col. Abdul Matin told Pajhwok Afghan News. He was en route to his office.

A passer-by was injured in the blast, he said.

Zaman was a member of the district development council, and during the Russian occupation was a jihadi commander loyal to Hizb-e-Islami-Afghanistan, led by Gulbuddin Hekmatyar.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the blast.
