Samangan accident claims three lives

AIBAK (PAN): Three people were killed on Thursday when a pick-up truck collided with a fuel tanker in the northern province of Samangan, officials said.

The accident took place at 8:30am when the tanker, carrying from Kabul to Mazar-i-Sharif, rammed into the pick-up in the Pul-i-Sangshikan area on the outskirts of Aibak.

Col. Muhammad Ibrahim, Samangan traffic police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News three occupants of the pick-up died on the spot. The victims' bodies were retrieved from the vehicle after three hours of efforts.

The dead included two engineers and a driver of the International Centre for Agricultural Research in Dry Areas were killed in the accident, said Naseer Ahmad, a driver of the organisation.

The driver and conductor of the tanker fled after the collision.
