Ex-police officer’s son kidnapped

Ex-police officer’s son kidnapped

Dec 26, 2010 - 13:34

CHARIKAR (PAN): Gunmen kidnapped overnight the son of a former police official in central Parwan province, officials said on Sunday.

Muhammad Samim, son of Gen. Abdul Haleem Kohistani, was kidnapped along with his friend in Pul-i-Matak area on Saturday night, provincial governor, Abdul Basir Salangi, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The two were travelling towards Kabul from Mazar-i-Sharif, capital of northern Balkh province, with three other friends when gunmen intercepted their vehicle.

Parwan police chief, Brig. Gen. Sher Ahmad Muldani, said kidnappers had moved Samim to Deh Maskan area of Bagrami district.

A massive search operation involving Afghan army and intelligence operatives had been launched to secure their release, he added.

Without going into details, Muldani believed the kidnapping was carried out to obtain a ransom.

Samim’s father Muhammad Halim Kohistani has retired as central police zone commander six months. He confirmed the abduction of his son.
