Returnees receive land in Parwan

Returnees receive land in Parwan

Oct 17, 2010 - 18:42

CHARIKAR (PAN): Plots of land are being distributed to nearly 1,026 families who have returned from neighbouring Pakistan and Iran to Barikab town of Bagram district in central Parwan province, an official said on Sunday.

Initially 300 families, who are native to central Panjsher province, were given the land, said Parwan Refugee and Returnee Department head, Abdul Majeed.

He said the families were given land in Parwan as there was no suitable area in Panjsher.

He said most of the returnees were currently living in Kabul, Baghlan and Kunduz provinces in rented houses and some in Panjsher with their relatives.

The families had been recognised by government officials, provincial council representatives and a special commission tasked with recognition of families who were deserving.

Majeed said the families have to pay 5,000 to 6,000 afghanis which will pay for the extra services such as schools, clinics, roads and water supply systems for them in the town.

Muhammad Azim, a resident of Safed Cher village in Panjsher, who had returned from Pakistan in 2003, said he was currently living in a rented house in Breshnakot area of Kabul city. He said he was happy to receive a plot of land in Parwan.
