District police chief injured in blast

<!--break--><p>ZARANJ (PAN): Two police officers were injured in a remote-controlled bomb explosion in western Farah province, an official said on Saturday.</p><p>The blast took place in the Chowk-i-Walayat area late Friday night when 1st district police chief, Maj. Fazal Ahmad, was going to his office.</p><p>Ahmad's vehicle was slightly damaged in the blast that wounded him and one of his bodyguards, the Farah police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News.</p><p>The wounded were evacuated to hospital, Brig. Gen. Faqir Ahmad said. However, he said nothing about the condition of the men.</p><p>Locals, meanwhile, said two civilians were also injured in the blast -- a claim rejected by the authorities.</p><p>Separately, a police officer was killed during a firefight with the insurgents in Bala Baluk district. As usual, the Taliban fighters claimed responsibility for the killing.</p><p>Rebel mouthpiece, Qari Yousaf Ahmadi, said they had killed Shah Mohammad, deputy police chief for the district.</p><p>am/mud</p>
